About the School

Mission Statement

The MISSION of the Alexander City Schools is to provide a safe and inviting learning environment with high expectations for ALL, while focusing on the development of the whole child - academically, socially, emotionally, and physically.

About the School

The VISION of the Alexander City Schools is to produce graduates that are successful and empowered to compete globally based upon their own unique talents and interests.

William L. Radney Elementary serves the 5th and 6th grade students of Alexander City. We are a school of 37 faculty and staff members that are devoted to the academic, social, and emotional growth of all students under our care. We address the needs of our students by offering a solid core curriculum that is integrated with 21st Century skills that will prepare students for success after they leave William L. Radney Elementary School(RES).

Academically, we offer English Language Arts, Math, Science, and the Social Sciences to our students. Our teachers are divided into (3) three teacher teams on the 5th and 6th grade halls. Our math teachers teach both science and math, and all are AMSTI (Alabama Math Science and Technology Initiative) certified and utilize the AMSTI curriculum materials. Our language arts teachers teach writing and language arts embedded within the social studies curriculum using DBQ's or Document Based Questioning. Our reading teachers teach spelling and reading using the Scott Foresman reading curriculum as well as novel studies. In addition, our reading teachers are ARI (Alabama Reading Initiative) trained. We offer Intervention classes to support our students that require remediation in reading and math. Furthermore, we offer an enrichment period for all students to accelerate their learning and growth. We also offer several elective courses such as: STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math), Introduction to Robotics, Music, Art, Keyboarding, and Library. Our music and art courses are offered through funding by the City Council of Alexander City.

RES believes in treating all students with respect and dignity. We utilize research based instructional strategies and vary teaching styles to meet the needs of all learners. Our teachers build positive relationships and have high expectations for all students. Our goal is that all students will leave RES with the necessary skills to graduate from Benjamin Russell High School with the skills to be successful in their college or career endeavors.

RES is proud of our students and staff and all they have accomplished together! Let me share with you some of our accomplishments from the last few years.
